Ralph Bush (oil and watercolor)
Ralph Bush, known for his painterly style in both oil and watercolor ,is a long time member of the prestigious Copley Society and is a Gold Medal winning member of the New England Watercolor Society. Ralph can often be seen out painting out on Monhegan. His Monhegan paintings are among the best of the genre. Ralph’s works are a lively combination of skill and joy. Ralph is a graduate of the New England School of art and graduate Studies at Mass College of Art. Ralph’s many awards precede him to the fabulous selection of his works to be enjoyed at Gallery II. Ralph resides in Waldoboro Maine.
Pam Cabanas lives and works in Friendship, Maine. Pam, educated at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, the University of New Mexico, has developed a strong local following of admirers and collectors of her work. Her black and white odes to the shores of the Maine coast are painted with strength and delicacy. It has been said that each piece is like a wordless love letter to Friendship, Maine. Of her use of shades from black to white, she says, “Somehow by reducing the landscape to its essential values, sometimes, I can hit that button in hearts that triggers a sentimental love and reverence for place.” Pam’s work in pastel again combine soul and place to bring the viewer a soft and loving look at the forces at work that shape her experience on the Maine coast. Skimming The Surface will bring the viewer a comprehensive selection of Pam’s recent work.
Nancy Nelson, Long time resident of Friendship, Maine brings her ceramics and weaving to Skimming the Surface. In her Friendship studio, Nancy has produced a series of dreamy hand built stoneware platters incised with images of sea life that combine function with whimsy and delight. Combined with skill fully woven rugs and linens Nancy’s style is born. Nancy, largely self taught, herself teaches pottery, weaving, fiberarts, jewelry making, and other crafts at various schools and workshops thru-out Midcoast Maine. Her skills don’t stop there as her violin performances are widely enjoyed. ____________________________________________

Kathleen Thornton – July 1, 2012 – July 14
River Arts Gallery II & Studio Space
River Arts is pleased to announce the acquisition of new space on Route 1 in Damariscotta to accommodate a new gallery venue for artists (River Arts Gallery II) and new studio space for sculpture and ceramics classes and studios. The space is located on Route 1 north at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 1B (Business Route 1).
River Arts Gallery II offers approximately 1,000 square-feet of first-class gallery space that River Arts would rent to regional artists on a weekly or monthly basis for exhibitions and installations, programs and demonstrations. The introductory rate for space rental is $300/week $ 500/for 2 weeks for members — $400/week $600/for 2 weeks for non-members. No commission will be charged for work sold. Reservations for the space are available now and on a first come, first served basis. Artists are welcome to show their work together or show their own body of work. River Arts will promote the exhibition on its website, in mailings and on Facebook. Signage will be very visible at this location and the Route 1 intersection location slows down Route 1 traffic. This is exposure to travelers heading to countless Maine locations as well as regular commuters. The space is well lit, handicapped accessible and air conditioned. There is ample parking!
Studio Space
Part of the available space is outstandingly suited for use as ceramic and sculpture studio space. River Arts has taken the pottery kilns out of storage and it will be possible to teach sculpture and ceramics classes, which has not been achievable at the current location. The building also includes ample storage and parking and the space and parking are easily accessible. We will conducting 2 monitored open life studios in sculpture and 2 ceramics classes to be taught by Ingrid Bathe starting in September. Information about these classes will be published shortly. The studio space is easily accessible. It is an ideal location for our upcoming Stone Sculpture workshops.
In addition, we anticipate that there will be at least 2 individual studio spaces available for rent after November 1, 2010.
Please email Linda Morkeski at info@riverartsme.org to reserve space or to get more information about classes and studios – or call River Arts 563-1507.
If you are interested in supporting this outstanding project and in helping establish new space and opportunities for artists, we hope you will consider contributing to this initiative.
