Introduction to Jazz Improvisation

This class will present basic information related to improvisation, including: scales, harmonic structures, intervals, and some other tools. In between classes, participants will be encouraged to compose melodies over simple chord structures in order to develop personal improvisational tools.

Participants should have some experience playing an instrument and knowledge of the major scale. Some effort will be given to accommodating individual levels and interests, depending on class size, however general instruction will target beginner levels. Due to site limitations, instruments will generally not be brought to class.
