Letterboxing at River Arts

Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime combining artistic ability with delightful “treasure-hunts” in beautiful, scenic places that the whole family can enjoy. Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by following clues, and then record their discovery in their personal journal with the help of a rubber stamp that’s part of the letterbox. In addition, letterboxers have their own personal stamps which they use to stamp into the letterbox’s logbook.

Sunny Sailing Box

Start from River Arts Gallery. Walk out of the building and around to the left. The box is hidden in the courtyard; the hose snakes through the hiding spot.

Damariscotta River Box

Start from River Arts Gallery, on Main Street in Damariscotta, ME. Find the oldest neon sign in town. Standing under it, facing the gallery, go left.

Find the celestial shop. From there it’s 40 paces to a railing of green metal and concrete. Look to end and see the backs of three signs- two brown and one green. Standing under them, you should, again, see three signs, two brown, one green. Walk in the direction those signs point. At the water’s edge, just under the second and third rocks on the right lies what you seek.
