Internet Marketing Workshop – Nov. 19

Darrell Bulmer and Kerstin Gilg of the Maine Arts Commission  presented a two hour workshop that demonstrates and simplifies online marketing for artists.  Over 50 artists attended. Wesley McNair

Wesley McNair, author of nine poetry collections, including Lovers of the Lost: New and Selected Poems (David R. Godine, 2009). He has received fellowships from the Rockefeller, Fulbright, and Guggenheim Foundations, and countless other honors, including the Robert Frost Prize; the Jane Kenyon Award for Outstanding Book of Poetry (for Fire); the Eunice Teitjens Prize from Poetry magazine; the Sarah Josepha Hale Medal (also awarded to Robert Frost, Donald Hall, Maxine Kumin, Robert Lowell, May Sarton, Arthur Miller, Richard Wilbur, et. al.) for his “distinguished contribution to the world of letters”; and two honorary doctoral degrees for literary distinction.  McNair has served three times on the nominating jury for the Pulitzer Prize in poetry.  Featured on Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac and National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition, his work has appeared in the Pushcart Prize Annual, two editions of The Best American Poetry, and over fifty anthologies and textbooks.  Among the magazines that have published his work: AGNI, AGNI Online, The Atlantic Monthly, The Gettysburg Review, Poetry, The Southern Review, and Virginia Quarterly Review. McNair recently retired from the University of Maine at Farmington, where he directed the creative writing program. He was recently selected for a United States Artist Fellowship as one of America’s “finest living artists.”

and create a painting blog?

“Blogging and Daily Painting” Workshop

with Bobbi Heath Two- day workshop- Saturdays  Jan 23 & 30  9-4 (snow dates 1/24 & 1/31) $210 members $235 non-members

Do you want to paint regularly, but can’t find a way to fit it in? This workshop will show you how quick small paintings can be a rewarding way to improve your painting skills and to enjoy painting more. “Almost Daily Painter” (www.bobbiheath.blogspot.com), Bobbi Heath, who holds a fulltime “day” job, will explain techniques, materials, and an approach to daily painting that works.

Bobbi will show you how to set up a painting blog and discuss photographing paintings and processing them in Photoshop  Elements for use on your blog. Bobbi will answer questions such as “Is it good enough to post?” and “Do I need a website and a blog?” and provide how-to take home notes. The painting portion of the workshop will consist of exercises focused on creating a finished painting in a short session, and having fun doing it, with demonstrations by Bobbi.

The two-day workshop will be divided roughly equally between learning how to set up and maintain your blog and experiencing daily painting.  Students may use oils, gouache, or acrylics.

Weekend Animation Workshop for adults

“Talking Heads:

Simple techniques for bringing animated characters to life.”

Friday Nov. 27 &  Saturday, Nov. 28 -$210

Network with others (including classroom teachers) while you master animation “tricks of the trade”.  Learn techniques that can be applied to Line, Cut-paper or Claymation frame-by-frame animation.

Friday 12 noon- 6pm meet and greet-networking , followed by film screenings and hands-on demo with time to rough draft concept and artwork for production on Saturday …with plenty of time to drive home.

Saturday 9-5pm  Create artwork, then shoot digital frame-by-frame short animated clips (lunch out at local restaurants)

BRING LAPTOPS to download raw footage to take with you and workshops end.  May get into simple editing as time allows.

The Final Touch: An Introduction to Bookbinding

January 9th  1-4   $25

This afternoon workshop will introduce you to the satisfying world of handmade books by teaching you the final step first: decorating and putting on the cover. The signatures (the pages) will already be prepared for you, though a demonstration of how it was done will be presented, just to whet your appetite for other classes.

Sponsored by Salt Bay Art Supply and taught by Carol Jaeger.

All materials will be provided for a successful afternoon.

Class limited to 10 adult participants.
