6 week Basic Digital Photography course for beginning or amateur photographers using “point and shoot” or DSLR cameras and Photoshop Elements (or your own camera’s software). The course will be tailored to attendee’s interests and needs. In the first three weeks, we will cover camera settings and functions as well as composition tricks that the pros use. We will then move on to downloading and organizing your photographs using whichever software you have. Weeks 4 and 5 will cover editing and producing the final picture, and we will wrap the series up covering flash usage and how best to photograph your own art work.

Handouts will be provided for each class so you can concentrate on learning and not taking notes! If you have a laptop, it would be great to bring it to the three weeks we’ll be working on downloading or editing. I will have 2 extra Apple (Mac) laptops for the class to use. Please bring your camera manual and software to each class if you have it. March 2 – Live Wires; Drawing In three Dimensions

Lines have a life of their own. In this workshop, we will explore the magic of drawing in three dimensions, creating images with polychrome wires. We will discover how each line affects the adjacent line with the varied colors, gauges, and movement of the wires.
Many techniques to develop a structure and shape our lines into 3D forms will be introduced to give expansive possibilities for your personal vision.

This is a hands-on opportunity to create and complete a wired sculpture worthy of your portfolio. All the tools and materials will be provided in this class to guarantee a fun and productive time. No previous experience is needed. Material fee for this class is $25.

March 9 – Portrait and Mask: Finding Meaning and Expression
The portrait and face/mask each has it’s own special look, depending on the creator’s intention, but the skull bones and muscles determines the structure of the person’s face we creatively interpret. The expression of moods is greatly controlled by the jaw bone, the only moving bone of the twenty eight bones that make up the skull. In this workshop we will explore the apparent ways that emotions are exhibited in the muscular and skeletal bone positions of the human face. Each participant can choose a particular facial expression and create a mask to convey emotion based on their research of muscular positioning on the underlying skull bones.

March 15 – Mythical Magical Creatures; Goop Mache sculpture

Invite your inner Mythical Magical Creatures out to play for the day!
We will explore the process of sculpture through the myths of legendary creatures. Nantz will provide an opulent buffet of materials to get your creative juices flowing. We will explore ways to create a strong physical structure to support your idea or ‘thought form’. Next you will discover some easy ways to build up your balanced form to describe your ‘creature idea’. Then you decide how to surface your personal creation to bring it to life. Magic Happens! All the tools and materials will be provided in this class. No previous experience needed…just bring your imagination, have fun, and bring home a masterpiece! Material fee for this class is $25.

Each of these workshops would give High School students a chance to enhance their art portfolios. Throughout the sessions the instructor will provide info on how to present, record, & describe their work for school or work interviews.
